In Joppa there was a disciple named Tabitha (in Greek her name is Dorcas); she was always doing good and helping the poor.
Acts 9:36 (NIV)
Without knowing it, a person, out of appreciation or recognition, decides to give you a gift. For him, it's just a simple gesture of love. However, what this gift can mean to you is beyond his thoughts. Receiving a gift, knowing that there is someone thinking of you and also the fact that you are valued by this person can change everything in your mind and even in your life.
When we consider the situation of these poor people who could not dress themselves decently, nor even feed themselves properly, we can get an idea of what they felt and what it meant for them that a woman they probably did not know could think of them to the point of making clothes, doing a lot of good for them and giving them money. Their joy was immense. What I like the most is the fact that the verse clearly states that Tabitha (Dorcas) was a follower of Christ.
If there is one question I would like to ask you today: are you like Tabitha or are you thinking of the poor around you to take an action that makes them feel your love for them? Jesus did this several times. He looked at many cases of poor people. I think this should serve as an example for us to be a model like Tabitha whose story is still repeated today to show us the importance of also thinking about others.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
