So I say this, and affirm in the Lord, that you are to no longer walk just as the Gentiles also walk, in the futility of their minds, being darkened in their understanding, excluded from the life of God because of the ignorance that is in them, because of the hardness of their heart.
Ephesians 4:17-18 (NASB)
When a person confesses his sins and accepts Jesus Christ as his Savior and Lord, he is born again. A transformation immediately occurs in his life. He becomes aware of his sinful nature and realizes that he really needs to give up his old life to embrace the new life he has just received.
Some still doubt that they have truly become children of God. You should know that believing and confessing the lordship of Jesus Christ is enough to make us citizens of heaven, children of God, and to receive the Holy Spirit.
However, this does not completely remove the sinful desires that still linger in our corruptible body. This is where the Holy Spirit steps in to guide us, convince us, and bring us into an intimate relationship with God. Thus, He will reveal to us what pleases God and what pleases the world. But He will need our attention and our obedience.
The believer who surrenders to the Holy Spirit to guide him will not walk as the world walks, will not do what the world does for his spirit will be renewed day by day.
