The Lord replied, “My Presence will go with you, and I will give you rest.” Then Moses said to him, “If your Presence does not go with us, do not send us up from here."
Exodus 33:14-15 (NIV)
As mentioned in the previous message, Moses knew everything he had obtained from God, His grace, His favor and even the authority to guide His people. He had the assurance that God knew him by name and had found favor and grace in His sight, but he was still missing something much more important for which he had to plead his case before God. His plea in this passage was the presence of God.
Despite the fact that God promised him that His presence would be with him and that He would give him rest. Moses, by his insistence, proved to God that he needed much more. It's like he's saying to God, I want a much more convincing guarantee from You so that I can be comfortable. While we should look to Moses as an example in his pursuit of God's presence, we instead choose to get too comfortable in our comfort zone, waiting for God himself to fulfill his promises.
Moses was not interested in his comfort zone. Even if he could settle for that, he chose who would be with him and with God's people. he chose to know God better. he chose to run after God's favor. he chose the presence of God himself to accompany him. This is what it means to step out of your comfort zone to please God. With that being said, what is your plea before God today? Whatever your plea, remember that being too comfortable will not help you grow in the knowledge of God.
May the grace and the peace of God be with you all.
