Everyone’s Responsibility

Let us think of ways to motivate one another to acts of love and good works.

Hebrews 10:24 (NLT)

Today, we meet many Christians who refuse to attend church. When asked why, they answer that they no longer have a reason to go, the church is not what it used to be. They judge that the messages are no longer the same, that there is no longer true love between Christians and that they are more inclined to blame and condemn the mistakes of others than to help them face their situation, to exhort them with love and to accompany them.

In a certain sense, there is some truth in what they say. It is really sad to see believers abandon their assembly because they have been hurt by those who should support and assist them spiritually. The church is the place where those who seek restoration in their lives must come, if they are rejected by those who should love and guide them, they will end up abandoning God.

This is exactly what the author is trying to avoid when he asks his listeners to watch over one another. By watch over, he also means that we must forgive and exhort without judging or condemning. When you find yourself wanting to condemn another, tell yourself that you are not perfect and that you also make mistakes. It is by lovingly watching over one another that we can all accomplish the works for which God has placed us together.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
