Forget the former things; do not dwell on the past. See, I am doing a new thing! Now it springs up; do you not perceive it? I am making a way in the wilderness and streams in the wasteland.
Isaiah 43:18-19 (NIV)
How many discouragements have you faced in the past year? How many times have you cried and doubted God’s goodness toward you? I’m sure you have a very long list. Rest assured, you’re not alone in your list. We’ve all walked through unfamiliar deserts and deep valleys this past year. But one thing is for sure, we came through because God was in control during each of those difficult times.
The people of Israel spent 40 years in the wilderness. They blamed God many times. They doubted His promises to care for them. They even challenged Moses’ leadership many times, but God was always faithful despite their unbelief and lack of faith. God’s promises never change. Instead of complaining about what you experienced in 2024, think instead about what God taught you through your trials to help you grow in faith.
If you can understand the reason for your difficulties and fears to learn from them, you will understand that God was preparing you for something new. Circumstances will change, your faith will be activated in the face of what 2025 will bring you. As the author says, forget the past events, focus on the blessings that God will grant you and the wonders that he will accomplish in your life. If what is old is no more, it is because what is new will erase them from your memory and will grant you the joy of the Lord. Trust in God for this new year, because new challenges await you.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
