Not Sinning Is Better

So David sent servants and inquired about the woman. And someone said, “Is this not Bathsheba, the daughter of Eliam, the wife of Uriah the Hittite?”

2 Samuel 11:3 (NASB)

God always intervenes in our bad decisions and bad choices made out of emotion. He knows our weaknesses and our tendencies to sin without thinking about the consequences that await us. Even though He will always forgive us our sins, He will not prevent the consequences from reaching us. It is not to punish us or hurt us but to teach us to think better before acting and not to let ourselves be carried away by our personal desires.

We have two cases in the Bible that show us that God never lets us down when He sees us on the wrong path. He intervenes in such a way that He reveals to us that He sees us and that He knows what is going to happen. When Cain, in his anger, was going to kill Abel, God told him that sin was waiting for him at the door. When David asked for Bathsheba, God made sure that the messenger told him clearly that she was the wife of Uriah, whom he knew to be the leader of his army.

Your insistence on satisfying your desires can prevent you from hearing the voice of the Holy Spirit, from understanding the message He is sending you through someone else, and even from paying attention to the barriers He is putting in your way to keep you from sinning. God sees you and knows the desires of your heart. He does not want you to sin and then have to forgive yourself; He even wants to keep you from sinning. Have a submissive heart and a discerning spirit to understand God’s messages when your desires lead you to fall into sin.

May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
