But when they had grazed, they became full, they were filled, and their heart was lifted up; therefore they forgot Me.
Hosea 13:6 (ESV)
A friend of mine once said to me, “If you want to see lazy people, go to church; it’s not that they don’t want to work, but the best thing they should make an effort for is the one thing they always have an excuse for, their personal relationship with God.” It was hard to accept, but it was true. Many Christians, as long as they are not suffering or things are going well for them, forget their relationship with God and no longer care about His Word. They become spiritually lazy. We all know a Christian who has this attitude toward God. These are people who don’t have time to pray, study the Bible, or even go to church. They would rather work extra hours so they can put more money in their account.
The book of Hosea presents us the same situation that God faced with His people. They have turned away from Him to other gods, even though He has chosen them to be His people and blessed them. They have forsaken His ways to follow the ways of other nations. But when things go wrong for them and they have no recourse, they seek Him and complain as if God had forsaken them. That is why God has pointed out to them that their hearts have been lifted up.
Do not let the difficulties of life cause you to need God, you still need Him even when you are blessed a hundredfold. If you ever feel like becoming lazy and neglecting your relationship with God, remember that your blessings come from Him.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
