Against You, You only, have I sinned, And done this evil in Your sight— That You may be found just when You speak, And blameless when You judge.
Psalm 51:4 (NKJV)
Most often when a Christian sins, we focus much more on him, on the pain experienced or the loss of the victim if there is any, and on the consequences of the sin. However, we completely ignore the person who suffers the most from the effects of sin, God Himself. He suffers not only from the effects of one person's sin, but from the sum of all the sins of all humanity. What does the Bible tell us about the effect of sin on God, Jesus Christ, and the Holy Spirit?
1-: Our sins afflict the heart of GOD
And the Lord was sorry that He had made man on the earth, and He was grieved in His heart. (Genesis 6:6 NKJV)
2-: Our sins crucify again Jesus Christ on the cross
If they fall away, to renew them again to repentance, since they crucify again for themselves the Son of God, and put Him to an open shame. (Hebrews 6:6 NKJV)
3-: Our sins grieve the Holy Spirit
And do not grieve the Holy Spirit of God, by whom you were sealed for the day of redemption. (Ephesians 4:30 NKJV)
When we consider the effects of our sins on the Trinity, we see that by sinning we directly attack the person of God, the glory of God, the plan of God, the character of God, the righteousness of God and ultimately God's love for his children.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
