This is to my Father’s glory, that you bear much fruit,
showing yourselves to be my disciples.
John 15:8 (NIV)
Before His ascension, Jesus gave us a simple command: “Make disciples of all nations.” Some of us don’t think much about this command because we think it only applies to evangelists. We won’t say pastors or teachers because they are responsible for caring for the spiritual lives of believers.
According to this verse, proclaiming the gospel is more than making disciples; it brings glory to God for every soul who accepts Jesus Christ as Savior. So we can conclude that bearing fruit means preaching the word to unbelievers and spiritually accompanying them to help them realize that they are sinners and need Jesus for God’s forgiveness and salvation. Notice that Jesus doesn’t say if you bear fruit, but if you bear much fruit. This is what will make us His disciples.
Imagine the joy in heaven when we proclaim the gospel to many unbelievers who eventually accept Jesus. Remember that God’s purpose is for all to come to the knowledge of Christ so that they can be saved. So don’t say you’re not an evangelist, it’s not the title that matters to God, it’s the number of souls you share the truth of salvation with.
May the grace and peace of God be with you all.
