We Have Their Example

And the Lord said to Satan, “The Lord rebuke you, Satan! The Lord who has chosen Jerusalem rebuke you! Is this not a brand plucked from the fire?”

Zechariah 3:2 (NKJV)

We are always looking for an excuse to do or not do something that we are not interested in, and when we find ourselves in a situation where our excuse does not work, we hope that the other person will understand us. We often adopt the same attitude with God, even in the simplest things. God commands us to study His word day and night, instead of accepting our laziness, we blame our lack of time, hoping that God will understand.

By such an attitude, we reject God's will to help us develop His character and to be able to defend us against the enemy when necessary. We have several characters in the Bible whose cause God pleaded, Moses, Job, David Joshua to name just a few. They had only one desire, that of pleasing God. In today's verse we see God's position in relation to Satan when he sought to accuse Joshua. The verse tells us that God rebuked Satan and, speaking to Joshua, told him that He would take away his sin (V.4).

Why does God always defend those He has called? Is it because He loved them more or because they were His favorite? Not at all! The Bible tells us that God does not show favoritism. You and I, God has also called us through Jesus Christ, we can also have such a privilege. But there is one condition, that of walking in obedience to the word of God and living in a way that pleases Him. If Moses, Joshua, David, Job, Peter, Paul could do it, then we can do it too. We have their example so let’s do better than them.

May the grace and the peace of God be with you all.
