Let your conversation be always full of grace, seasoned with salt, so that you may know how to answer everyone.
Colossians 4:6 (NIV)
Have you ever been in the middle of depression and someone who knows it comes to you to tell you about his problems, hoping that you will provide a solution? You may not have experienced it yet, but it is a situation that requires a lot of wisdom and humility. It is often the most disruptive interruption in the management of our crisis. However, the Bible exhorts us to behave wisely.
It should be noted that there is a continuation in this verse. First, it tells us that our conversations must always be accompanied by grace, that is, kindness. Then they must be seasoned with salt, which means that they must delight the heart of our interlocutor. It is when these two steps are perfectly carried out that we will know how to respond to others. This, at all times and in all circumstances, not just when we are in a state of relaxation and joy.
It won't always be easy. But as the Bible teaches us, it is not our emotion in a given situation that matters in God's eyes, but our obedience to His word even if we do not like what it requires. God knows us in every aspect of our lives, which is why He prescribes to us in His word how we should behave towards each other. This is what will strengthen the bond of unity between us and prove that we are children of God.
May the grace of God be with you all.
